Wombourne High School is the village’s secondary school, on Ounsdale Road. It’s a mixed, non-selective academy for students aged 11 to 18, with a sixth form, and has around 1,000 pupils. It’s part of the Invictus Education Trust.
History
The school opened in September 1956 as Ounsdale, a new secondary school set in eighteen acres of playing fields, and became fully comprehensive in 1958. In 2002 it gained specialist Arts College status. In March 2015 it became an academy and a founding member of the Invictus Education Trust, and in 2019 Ounsdale High School was renamed Wombourne High School.
The trust’s other schools include Kinver High School, Ellowes Hall Sports College, The Crestwood School, Leasowes High School, Pedmore High School and Rufford Primary School.
Sixth form
Students can stay on for A levels and other post-16 courses in the school’s own sixth form, which has a standalone building opened by the singer Beverley Knight. Ofsted’s 2026 report described the sixth form as “a valued and important part of the school”.
Ofsted
The school was last inspected in May 2026 under Ofsted’s new report card system. You can read the full report on the Ofsted website.
