Things to do in Wombourne this October half term

17 October 2026

Staffordshire schools break up for half term from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026. Whether you’ve got toddlers, teens or a houseful of cousins, there’s plenty to keep everyone busy without going far from Wombourne. Here are our picks.

1. The Enchanted Pumpkin Path at Himley Hall

Just up the road, Himley Hall’s Enchanted Pumpkin Path is back for its second year: an evening trail lit by glowing pumpkins, running on selected dates until Sunday 1 November. Entry is by timed tickets booked through Skiddle, and it’s expected to sell out, so book early.

2. Holiday makers’ morning at Wombourne Library

On Wednesday 28 October, 10am to 12 noon, the library is holding a free Half Term Holidaymaker Marathon for children and their grown-ups. No need to book, just drop in.

3. Make a splash at the leisure centre

Wombourne Leisure Centre runs family and fun swim sessions. Timetables usually change over the holidays, so check the half-term times before you go.

4. Have a go at padel

Padel is the fast-growing racket sport that’s a cross between tennis and squash, and it’s easy to pick up even if you’ve never played. Wombourne Padel has four outdoor courts for all ages and abilities, open 6am to 10.30pm every day, with rackets and balls to hire, so you don’t need any kit. Book a court online through Playtomic.

5. Somewhere for the little ones

The Play Cafe on Heath Mill Road has play zones and activities for young children, plus proper coffee for the grown-ups. It’s open 9:30am to 3pm on weekdays and 9:30am to 5:30pm on Saturdays, and sessions can be booked online.

6. Walk the Railway Walk and the Bratch

For a free day out, follow the old railway line through the village. It’s flat, traffic-free and good for buggies, bikes and dogs. Stop for cake at The Platform, the café on the old station off Bratch Lane (under cover in the winter months), then head down to the canal to watch the boats work through the Bratch locks. For a longer route, try our circular walk around Wombourne.

7. Baggeridge Country Park

Just beyond the village at Gospel End, Baggeridge Country Park has a play area for younger children with a sandpit, digger, swings and slides, a mountain bike trail for a range of abilities, walking trails and the Baggeridge Tearoom, which is open all year. Parking charges apply.

8. Free holiday clubs for eligible children

For the first time, Staffordshire’s Holiday Activities and Food programme is running over October half term. Children aged 5 to 16 who receive free school meals can book one free session, with Halloween crafts, sports and outdoor challenges, and a meal included on longer sessions. Book at staffordshire.gov.uk/haf.
